Chapter 1 Enemy

Duplicate Entities

A breakdown in identity and data integrity. Duplicate Entities represent conflicting records — multiple versions of the same asset existing simultaneously, each slightly different, each equally dangerous.

What are Duplicate Entities?

Duplicate Entities are fragmented identities of a single asset. Instead of one clear system, multiple overlapping versions exist — each with partial truth, conflicting data, and no definitive source of accuracy.

Conflicting records

Multiple instances of the same asset appear at once, each slightly offset and inconsistent, making it difficult to determine which is real.

Unstable identity

These entities flicker, overlap, and phase between positions, reinforcing their lack of a single authoritative identity.

Data fragmentation

Each duplicate holds only part of the truth, forcing the system — and the player — to resolve the conflict.

Why it is dangerous

Target confusion

Multiple identical enemies make it difficult to prioritize targets, increasing the chance of mistakes in combat.

Self replication

When attacked improperly, Duplicate Entities can split into smaller versions, multiplying the threat.

System instability

Their presence disrupts the environment, symbolizing how duplicate data leads to poor decisions and hidden risk.

Gameplay mechanics

Split on impact

When hit, a Duplicate Entity can split into two smaller entities, forcing the player to manage crowd control.

Merge behavior

If left alone, duplicates can recombine into a stronger version, rewarding aggressive and strategic play.

Shared movement space

They move along platforms like the player — running left and right, interacting with physics, and occupying the same combat space.

Physics and combat behavior

Full collision

Duplicate Entities interact with the environment just like the player — grounded movement, platform collisions, and shared space.

Erratic motion

Slight desync between duplicates creates unpredictable movement patterns, increasing difficulty.

Readable chaos

Despite duplication, each entity maintains a readable silhouette to ensure fair and skill-based gameplay.

Why it fits Chapter 1

Duplicate Entities expand the concept of Cyber Asset Management beyond visibility. Even when assets are visible, incorrect, duplicated, or conflicting data creates its own form of chaos. The player must not only reveal assets — but resolve them.
